MAVI MONTHLY REPORT – April 2022

The monthly activity of the Independent Life Support Centers (CAVI), which are part of the pilot project of the Independent Life Support Model (MAVI), is reported to the National Institute for Rehabilitation, I.P., based on the completion of the monitoring grids by each of the institutions.

According to these monitorings, in April 2022, out of the 35 projects in operation, 1002 people were supported, of which 439 in the North Region, 199 in the Centre Region, 129 in the Alentejo Region (767 people supported in the POISE territory), 40 in the Algarve Region and 195 in the Lisbon Region.

Of the 1002 people supported, 526 are female and 476 were male, with an average age of 46.

From the start of the project until 30 April 2022, a total of 2,306,245 (two million, three hundred and six thousand, two hundred and forty-five) hours were provided, of which 1,718,835 (one million, seven hundred and eighteen thousand, eight hundred and thirty-five) hours were provided in the territory covered by POISE, 189,224 (one hundred and eighty-nine thousand, two hundred and twenty-four) hours in the Algarve Region and 398,186 (three hundred and ninety-eight thousand, one hundred and eighty-six) hours in the Lisbon Region.

In April there was an increase in the number of active PIAPs, and a decrease in the number of new and suspended PIAPs and in the number of personal assistants providing support. However, the number of personal assistants employed by CAVI has increased slightly. There was a reduction in the average number of hours of assistance provided in all regions of the country, which was reflected in a significant decrease in the total number of hours.

However, paralleling the same period of the previous year, it appears that in 2021, from March to April, there was also a reduction in hours, although this was less evident.

Since the changes allowed by the country-wide extension of the project started to be implemented, the number of active PIAPs has been increasing every month, with April 2022 being the eighth consecutive month in which this has happened.
