New publication gathers results of study on the implementation of SIS-A in the evaluation and planning of support for inclusion in employment


The Portuguese Federation of Vocational Training and Employment of Persons with Disabilities and Disabilities (FORMEM) has just published the final results of the study in book form. “SIS-A in the Evaluation and Planning of Support for Employment Inclusion” led, in 2025, by a team of researchers from the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (ESE-IPP) and the Faculty of Human Motricity, University of Lisbon (FMH-UL). The study gathers technical and methodological information on the application of the Support Intensity Scale - Adult Version (SIS-A) as a support tool for assessing support needs and planning responses aimed at the socio-professional inclusion of people with disabilities. The research had the participation of professionals from 23 entities related to the area of socio-professional inclusion, as well as the involvement of 199 people with disabilities. The publication is an integral part of the ‘Know and Monitor for Better Action’ project, co-financed by the Institute for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, I.P. The BE AWARE Project, RUMO’s partnership, with Consultis (coordinating entity) and two Bulgarian entities, aimed at the construction and implementation of a training programme under the Supported Employment methodology, aimed at employers and technicians, invites employers; supported employment professionals; persons with disabilities and/or disabilities; representatives of public entities or civil society organisations; policy makers and BE AWARE partners participating in a session World Café, which will take place at Espaço Memória (in Barreiro), on July 16, at 2.30 p.m..

The project BE AWARE (2025-1-PT01-KA210-VET-000351315), lasting 18 months (until March 2027) and co-financing Erasmus+, tThe aim is to adapt and strengthen supported employment practices, with a special focus on improving the skills of professionals who work directly for the socio-occupational integration of people with disabilities or disabilities. The project focuses on strengthening employer engagement strategies, promoting more effective collaboration with companies and contributing to stronger and more sustainable job placements.

Expected results include the mapping of existing training resources, the development of a new training programme for supported employment professionals, the implementation of pilot actions; the creation of a manual of good practices for employers; and the promotion of dialogue initiatives with employers. The project also integrates awareness-raising and communication actions aimed at the public and organisations, promoting a culture of greater inclusion and social responsibility in the labour market.

With this intervention, BE AWARE aims to promote the employability of people with disabilities, enhance the quality of professional practices and contribute to more inclusive, accessible and diversity-focused work environments.
