The National Secretariat for Rehabilitation (SNR), provided for in paragraph 2 of Base VI of Law No º 6/71 of 28 February 1971, which laid the foundations for the rehabilitation and social integration of persons with disabilities, was established, under the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, on 20 August 1977 by the Decree-Law No º 346/77.

Since its inception, its mission has been to-if as instrument of the statefor the implementation of a national policy for the empowerment, rehabilitation and social integration of persons with disabilities, promoting and coordinating interventions in the fields of health, education, vocational training, employment and social inclusion, aligned cothe Constitution of the Portuguese Republic.

(IDiPD).
